The significance of the project
Project South West Link is the largest investment in the Swedish national grid in the last 30 years. The project is extremely important for the creation of a strong national network, which will be ready for future requirements for safe delivery of electricity and the integration of large wind farms. It is about building 430 km of the transmission network, which will be a 25 percent increase in reliability and transmission capacity in southern Sweden.
Elnos Group works
Within this project, Elnos Group built a new 400 kV line Hallsberg-Barkeryd, so-called package no. 2, the total length of 45 km. We also performed dismantling of the existing 220 kV Talle-Nässjö, the approximate length of 25 km.
During the project before us have stood various professional challenges. The route was extremely challenging, with numerous crosses with local roads, main roads and highways, as well as with a number of existing transmission lines of different voltage levels. Our technicians worked on the installation of 17 types of columns. The most interesting among them are certainly tube-type poles ‘Design Towers’. Its impressive dimensions, the height of 70 m, weight 120 t, represented a real challenge for our teams of assemblers.
The work in environmentally sensitive areas
400 kV transmission line Hallsberg-Barkeryd passes through areas where work is regulated by separate laws, and these are the areas of wind farms and environmentally sensitive areas, so-called Natura 2000. It is interesting that in environmentally sensitive areas, respecting the ban on the use of vehicles, machinery or even movement on the ground, the work was performed manually or by helicopter.
